Long term financial planning needs to be a top priority for all women. You may have been raised to take care of everyone else, but this is a situation in which you need to put the "oxygen mask" on yourself first. Most of us are going to be the head of our financial household at some point whether through death, divorce or design. We are starting more businesses and moving up professionally, so we have more responsibility, more money and even less time. On average, we live longer, and are more likely to shift careers or take time off to care for our family, so we have to plan even more carefuly than our male counterparts.
My clients want to take care of their families and maintain their independence and their dignity as they age. I bet you do, too. They are also smart, responsible and extremely busy. I bet you are, too. Don't let this slip through the cracks, thinking that the government, your children, or somebody else is going to take care of it.
